Emerson Process Management enhanced the functionality of its DeltaV SIS products with the release of version 8.4 software. The 8.4 release extends bulk edit capability to SIS modules and remote I/O, version control is extended to SIS modules and Logic solver configuration, a new report was added to verify that periodic software upgrades do not impact the DeltaV SIS logic solver configuration. This upgrade will significantly reduce engineering time and effort on large projects as well as improve IEC 61511 compliance.

“Our DeltaV SIS product was a major improvement in the way our end users could implement safety functions in their facilities,” said Dave Deitz, director of marketing for the DeltaV system. “These improvements will expand end users ease-of-use when implementing and managing their safety instrumented systems.”

Bulk editing involves exporting the configuration database into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet where configuration parameters can be easily and rapidly edited then re-imported into the configuration database.

Now all DeltaV SIS modules can be tracked using the Version Control and Audit Trail software (VCAT.) It tracks all changes and can require appropriate levels of signature authority to be implemented per loop SIL level. This provides additional security for all users and is particularly important to manufacturers in regulated industries.

The new DeltaV SIS module authorization functionality prevents unauthorized downloading of SIS configurations. Each safety integrity level 1-3 can be separately designated with different signature authorities. The new checksum report compares DeltaV SIS configuration before and after DeltaV software upgrades to show that there were no changes as a result of the software upgrade.
