Thomas and Betts offers high-temperature wire joints
Thomas & Betts offers a wire crimping solution for environments up to 150 C (302 F), such as automotive wiring harnesses and ballast-power connections in lighting fixtures, with the introduction of Sta-Kon® High Temperature Wire Joints.
Made of a molded, one-piece nylon housing for electrical insulation, Sta-Kon High Temperature Wire Joints are rated for temperatures up to 150 C (302 F), exceeding the temperature rating of 105 C for conventional wire joints (also known as closed-end connectors). High Temperature Wire Joints also are rated for 600V maximum.
“These wire joints perform well in applications where there are higher-than-normal temperatures,” said Dan Vega, product manager for Thomas & Betts' Industrial Products Group. “Lighting fixtures, for example, are usually small, and the ballasts generate a considerable amount of heat. High Temperature Wire Joints are necessary to connect power to the ballasts.
“In addition to lighting fixtures, Sta-Kon® High Temperature Wire Joints perform well in other OEM applications, such as automotive wiring harnesses, and in numerous construction applications as well.”
Other features include a brazed copper sleeve, which prevents the separation of the connection during crimping, and internal serrations, which enable cold flow for increased conductivity and pullout strength. The Sta-Kon High Temperature Wire Joints are available in three sizes: for wire range #18 to #16 (part number RB4-HT), wire range #16 to #14 (part number RC6-HT) and wire range #14 to #12 (part number RP7-HT). All install easily with Sta-Kon WT2000, WT2130A, ERG2001 and ERG2007 hand tools, as well as Sta-Kon power tools.
Sta-Kon High Temperature Wire Joints are UL® Listed and CSA Approved.
