SEW introduces contactless energy transfer system
SEW-Eurodrive announces the launch of MOVITRANS®, a contactless energy transfer system that causes no electromagnetic interference and is insensitive to outside influences. MOVITRANS® has been EMC tested according to BGV B11 and is the ideal power supply system for such mobile applications as transport systems in logistics centers, floor conveyors, automatically guided vehicle systems (AGV) and conveyor trolleys (skillets).
This system from SEW-Eurodrive works on the principle of inductive energy transfer. Electrical energy is transferred from a conductor in a fixed installation to one or more mobile loads without contact. Electromagnetic coupling is realized via an air gap and is not subject to wear, making it maintenance free.
Tim Adams, Southeast Sales Representative for Ipsen International says, "The system has proven to be extremely dependable technology. We installed the Contactless Energy Transducer with the Ipsen Uni-Loader in a fully automated heat treatment facility. The unit manages the load and unload process as well as accurate placement of the load at each work station throughout the facility. The MOVITRANS® system is integral in making this a state of the art heat-treating facility."
Exclusive Innovations in SEW's MOVITRANS® Contactless Energy Transfer System:
Stationary converter and transformer module, as well as the mobile pick-up units, have compact designs for installation in the control cabinet and at the mobile unit.
A larger effective air gap between the line cable and pick-up gives the customer more mechanical tolerance to build his application:
- 20 mm from SEW-EURODRIVE
- 10 - 15 mm from competitive systems
Constant 25kHz sinusoidal current configuration means that components are smaller and that the system automatically adjusts to wide fluctuations of the electrical load.
No service technician is needed. Customers can easily compensate the track inductance themselves using the MOVITRANS® SHELL TPS startup software.
The voltage drop across the line cable is limited to 500 VDC.
Manufacturers can now get their energy transfer, frequency inverters and electromechanical drive solutions from one source, rather than cobbling together a system using disparate elements from different suppliers.
MOVITRANS® Components
Stationary Components
The stationary components are TPS stationary converters, TAS transformer modules and the TLS line cables. The stationary converters convert the three-phase supply voltage into an AC supply with a frequency of 25 kHz. The transformer module converts this AC supply into a constant, load independent, sinusoidal alternating current. The alternating current injected by the transformer module is then routed to the line cable. The contactless energy transfer is established via this line cable.
Mobile Components
The mobile components are THM pick up units and TPM converters. Electrical energy is induced onto the transformer unit without contact and generates a load-independent current. This load-independent current is converted to a DC voltage by the converter. This DC voltage is then connected to the DC bus of a motor control system (inverter).
