Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. introduces the SITRANS® Probe LU ultrasonic level transmitter with Profile 3, Class B connectivity to PROFIBUS networks. PROFIBUS is the fieldbus for complete process production connectivity in plants across all industry sectors. The SITRANS Probe LU instrument is also available with HART® communications. The user can configure the instrument with a hand-held programmer or SIMATIC® PDM software.

With its introduction in 2004, the SITRANS Probe LU level transmitter set the standard for precision ultrasonic level measurement with an accuracy of 0.15 percent. Its accuracy is unmatched for any ultrasonic level transmitter on the market today. Siemens' engineers attained the improvement through enhancements in the Sonic Intelligence® echo processing software to compensate for echo attenuation and increases in floor noise.

The SITRANS Probe LU transmitter is used for level, volume, and flow monitoring of liquids in storage vessels and simple process vessels, as well as in open channels. It is ideal for level monitoring in the water and wastewater industry and chemical storage vessels, and can measure levels up to 40 feet (12 meters). The transducer is available in ETFE or PVDF to suit varying chemical and temperature conditions.
