Women run manufacturing plant in India

Adi Godrej-led Godrej group has set up, for the first time in India, an all-women manufacturing plant in Pune. The plant, used for the produces of Godrej Appliances, is completely manned and run by 45 strong women.

The company intends to tap the vast talent pool of women professionals. George Menezes, COO of Godrej Appliances told Financial Chronicle the company plans to increase the women’s employees’ strength to 20 per cent of total workforce over the next few years.

The all-women plant mainly manufactures 100 per cent green air conditioners. The current output of this ac line is 300 split ACs per day. The company claims the women employees now contribute to refrigerator and washing machine manufacturing line too. The output of the entire plant excluding ACs is 2,000 refrigerators per day and 300 washing machines per day.
