SMRP to administer CIMM certification
PlantServices.com
The International Society of Automation (ISA) announced that it has awarded its Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM) Certification program to the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP).
CIMM certification provides an unbiased, third-party, objective assessment and confirmation of the skills of industrial maintenance mechanics. Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance, and perform troubleshooting and analysis.
“CIMM is an important way for maintenance mechanics to prove their skills in the workplace,” says Rod Lincoln of Cytec Industries, an ISA volunteer who helped to develop the program. “It’s also a critical way for management to show that they’re committed to safety, efficiency, and professional development for their mechanics.”
SMRP is dedicated to fostering information exchange through a structured network of maintenance and reliability professionals; supporting maintenance and reliability as an integral part of business management; and presenting a collective voice on maintenance and reliability issues to advance practices. The organization promotes and supports maintenance and reliability education for people, production and quality processes to improve the work environment.
“SMRP is proud to be chosen to promote and administer the CIMM,” said Patrick Winters, executive director of SMRP. “The CIMM is a great compliment to our ANSI-Accredited Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) program. We expect great success with the program with the fact that there are more than 5 million workers classified in maintenance installation and repair occupations, and OSHA plans to put emphasis on documentation of maintenance workers’ skills.”
ISA transferred the program to SMRP on Jan. 1. For information, contact Maureen Gribble, certification manager, SMRP, at (703) 245-8011, or visit www.smrp.org.
