SMRP updates basis for CMRP examination
PlantServices.com
The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) is inviting the public to review the Body of Knowledge that practitioners master to become certified as maintenance and reliability professionals (CMRP).
Input is being accepted via Internet survey asking participants to rate and comment on job tasks necessary for competence in maintenance and reliability practice. The survey can be accessed via www.smrp.org/BoKsurvey.
The SMRP Body of Knowledge is reviewed periodically to ensure that it is current and complete. Input from people associated with the maintenance and reliability community and the public at large is needed to help validate the latest edition.
Survey participants will be able to evaluate the tasks or functions to be addressed in the CMRP examination and help determine their relative importance. The tasks are grouped into five categories: Business and Management, Production Process Reliability, Equipment Reliability, Organization and Leadership, and Work Management.
Participants can use the survey experience to help point out professional development opportunities that can help improve their performance and that of their organizations. The survey is scheduled to remain active through March 2008. The Internet link www.smrp.org/BoKsurvey will remain active indefinitely to provide a channel for public input.
The certification exam is developed and administered by the SMRP Certifying Organization, which has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) using the International Standards Organization (ISO) guidelines for accreditation of certifying activities. This a distinction not shared by other certification organizations in the field of maintenance and reliability.
The CMRP exam has become the international standard measure of competence in the maintenance and reliability field. More than 3,000 exams have been administered to professionals from 21 countries. About 2,000 professionals have successfully completed the exam.
