Hangin' with Dr. Pump
Pumping Machinery LLC, owned and operated by Lev Nelik (Dr. Pump), offers a two-day pump school training course, the last of which was held May 12-13 in Atlanta.
The next training session will be held Aug. 4-5 in Atlanta. Class size is limited, so register early. To sign up, fill out the registration form.
Once you're on the site, you will find a detailed description of this training course, as well as photos that illustrate prior sessions.
May's event included engineers, maintenance personnel, operators and management from City of Atlanta Waste Treatment plants; Atlanta Cobb County Treatment; the U.S. Air Force Maintenance Group; Carter HVAC support services; Reliant Energy; Northrop Grumman Navy Engineering; and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.
On the first day, attendees learned about centrifugal pumps -- the theory of hydraulics, how to read pump curves, cavitation issues -- as well as hands-on reassembly work on centrifugal pumps and live pump testing. The seminar also featured pump-to-motor alignment of live equipment and a presentation about submersible pumps and auxiliary systems.
On the second day, attendees learned about positive-displacement pumps -- progressing cavity, other types -- well as theory and hands-on practice.
