Don't flash and burn

Industry sources estimate that about five to 10 times per day, arc flash explosions take place in the United States that are sufficient to land victims in a hospital burn unit. Voltage kickback spikes common in electrical systems can damage or destroy measurement tools, and if they occur during the measurement process, they can trigger an arc flash.

Fluke is now offering a multi-part safety information program that was created to reduce hazards for people measuring electrical energy. The program also designed to reduce risk and liability for employers and is available for no charge by visiting
www.fluke.com. It is based on safety guidelines from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Electrotechnical Conference (IEC).

The electrical measurement safety program includes a 25-minute safety video that dramatizes the hazards of electrical measurement and explains the precautions that help defend against arc flash. It also contains a test tool post-test, which helps electricians gauge whether the test tools they are using meet today's safety standards, and a safety audit for your test tools and equipment.

To order the Fluke Electrical Measurement Safety Package, visit www.fluke.com/safety. The package is also available on DVD or videotape for $20.
