NEI standard on fuse applications in development

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) is collaborating with Cooper/Bussman, Ferraz Shawmut and Littelfuse to develop a new National Electrical Installation standard on fuse applications, called NECA 420-2xxx.

The standard will provide application guidelines and safe work practices for the use of fuses in electrical construction and maintenance applications.

"Developing NEI standards with expert partners is our preferred method," explains Brooke Stauffer, executive director for standards and safety at NECA. "Combining the expertise of manufacturers and installers will give us the best and technically-strongest standard for users."

"The standard will be written with the electrical contractor in mind, covering practical topics that just aren't taught at any university," says Vince Saporita, vice president for technical marketing and services at Cooper/Bussmann in St. Louis, Mo.

National Electrical Installation Standards are a family of ANSI-approved performance standards for electrical construction published by the NECA. Many are developed jointly with product manufacturers or other industry expert groups.

The NECA is comprised of over 70,000 electrical contracting firms. It includes 120 U.S. chapters and others in countries around the world.  The association sponsors the NECA Show, which features cutting-edge technologies, highlights new trends, and provides courses to help contractors broaden their knowledge and skill.
