Facilities-services company commits to green-cleaning practices

UNICCO Service Company, one of North America’s largest integrated facilities services outsourcing companies, has launched a comprehensive green services initiative, beginning with its GreenClean program, that will bring environmentally sensitive practices to the marketplace. The program was unveiled recently at the IFMA World Workplace Conference and Exposition.

Operating under the slogan “Guaranteed Clean - Certifiably Green” the program will help UNICCO customers achieve their green goals by creating a healthier environment for their tenants and employees. The program will also help customers work toward LEED certification. Enlisting the guidelines set forth from organizations such as the USGBC with its LEED Rating System, UNICCO will deploy its best practices while proactively seeking to guide the industry to be more environmentally friendly.

UNICCO will conduct proactive customer awareness programs to inform them of the benefits of Green practices and share its implementation methodology. The company’s approach is built on intensive retraining of operational staff and constant auditing, using advanced technologies, to monitor, report and adjust cleaning programs where desired. Its multi-step process will enable customers to qualify for industry certifications, such as LEED.

Further, UNICCO’s holistic approach extends beyond the scope of its specific responsibilities. It will closely work with building owners and tenants to implement recycling programs and carry out other initiatives, including energy and environmental programs.

UNICCO is already working with several colleges and universities, public venues, government and commercial buildings on green cleaning programs. It also is sponsoring a new Web site, www.greencleaning.com, which is a resource on everything green as it relates to building services. The site presents industry articles and perspectives from recognized leaders, provides links to other Green Cleaning resources and features news stories on topics of interest.
