Learn building security, earn credits
A) Ventilation systems can’t be controlled. B) Nobody knows what agents might be used. C) The detector technology is not sufficiently reliable or affordable. D) CBR events are extremely unlikely. If you can answer this question and at least six others related to building safety, you qualify to earn two professional development hours (PDHs) from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Participants who attended ASHRAE’s satellite broadcast, "Homeland Security for Buildings," received a certificate of attendance for two PDHs. To extend the same opportunity to purchasers of the "Homeland Security for Buildings" DVD, ASHRAE is making a test available. The test consists of 10 multiple-choice questions. Users must answer at least seven of 10 questions correctly to receive the certificate.
Why aren’t contaminant detectors widely used to control ventilation systems in response to chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) events?
More than 20,000 viewers at 1,000 sites watched the April 14 broadcast, which was hosted by the ASHRAE Presidential Ad Hoc Committee on Homeland Security and funded through a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in New York. Speakers discussed key issues related to building protection from CBR attacks.
The cost of the DVD, "Homeland Security for Buildings," is $41 ($34 for ASHRAE members). To order, contact ASHRAE customer service at (800) 527-4723 (United States and Canada) or (404) 636-8400 (worldwide), or fax (404) 321-5478.
